Junior Food Applications Scientist (M/F) - #2745374
Sunbloom Proteins
Sunbloom is hiring a Junior Food Applications Scientist (M/F) in MUNCHEN (81541
Germany) for a full-time position.
Join Sunbloom Proteins
As part of Avril, French industrial and financial leader in the vegetable oil and protein sector, at Sunbloom Proteins we develop and market innovative sunflower-based protein ingredients and explore their potential across a wide range of food applications.
To accelerate this momentum, we are looking for a Junior Food Applications Scientist whose core mission will be to understand, test, and demonstrate the potential of our ingredients in the foods of tomorrow, and to transform this technical knowledge into concrete solutions for our prospects and customers.
You will report into the Technical Sales & Marketing Manager of Sunbloom, work closely with Sunbloom's European sales team and, on a regular basis, with the experts and Food Scientists based at Avril's Innolab in Bruz, France. This will provide you with a particularly stimulating environment: the agility and business proximity of an entrepreneurial structure, combined with the equipment, expertise, and scientific community of a major agri-food group.
What You'll Do
As a Junior Food Applications Scientist, you will play a key role in unlocking the potential of Sunbloom's innovative sunflower protein ingredients across a wide range of food applications.
In your first months, your primary focus will be on application development and technical experimentation. You will build a deep understanding of our ingredients and generate the technical evidence needed to demonstrate their value to customers and partners.
Your responsibilities will include:
-Designing and conducting trials to evaluate the functionality and application potential of Sunbloom ingredients
-Developing, preparing, and assessing food prototypes
-Investigating the impact of formulations and processing conditions on texture, stability, functionality, and sensory properties
-Benchmarking Sunbloom solutions against alternative ingredients and competing products
-Translating experimental results into practical recommendations, application guidelines, and compelling technical arguments
-Documenting findings and sharing insights with technical, innovation, and commercial teams
Your initial projects will focus on dairy alternatives and hybrid dairy products, savory applications, and active nutrition, with opportunities to expand into new application areas as the business grows.
Grow With Us
This position is designed as a genuine development opportunity.
As you build expertise in our ingredients and applications, you will progressively take on a more customer-facing role, working closely with customers, distributors, and innovation partners to support their product development projects.
Over time, you will have the opportunity to:
-Support Sales and Technical Sales teams with formulation and application challenges
-Contribute to customer development projects and application trials
-Recommend technical solutions tailored to customer needs
-Prepare and deliver technical presentations, training sessions, and application materials
-Collaborate with distributors, research partners, and external experts
-Represent Sunbloom at customer meetings, trade shows, innovation events, and technical forums.
This role offers a unique opportunity to develop a broad skill set at the intersection of food science, product innovation, technical applications, and customer engagement, making it an ideal position for a curious and ambitious food scientist looking to grow their career in the ingredient industry.
A rich technical environment
Although you will be part of the Sunbloom team and based in Munich, you will regularly travel to Bruz in France to work with Avril's R&D and Innovation community, with opportunities to collaborate and exchange ideas with other Food Scientists, ingredient specialists, and food application experts.
You will have access to Innolab's facilities, expertise, and resources, while focusing on Sunbloom's business priorities and customer projects.
Candidate Profile
You hold a degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or Food Engineering.
Ideally, you have gained some hands-on experience in formulation, product development, or application trials through an internship, apprenticeship, or your first professional role.
Above all, we are looking for someone who enjoys learning through experimentation and solving problems through practical work.
You are:
-Curious, with a genuine passion for experimentation and problem-solving
-Rigorous, analytical, and attentive to data quality
-Comfortable working in a laboratory environment and motivated by food product formulation
-Able to design and structure trials, interpret results, and translate findings into practical recommendations
-Interested in ingredients and their functionalities, ideally with some initial knowledge of plant-based proteins
-Comfortable working collaboratively in an international and entrepreneurial environment
-Motivated by the opportunity to gradually develop a more customer-facing dimension to your role
-Excellent written and spoken English is essential. German and/or French fluent proficiency is nice to have
Why Join Us?
This position offers a unique combination of opportunities:
-Experiment: Enjoy a true Food Scientist role, combining laboratory work with hands-on product development.
-Build expertise: Become a technical reference over time for the applications of an innovative plant-based protein ingredient.
-Learn from experts: Benefit from Avril's scientific environment, state-of-the-art facilities, and R&D & Innovation community at Innolab.
-Work internationally: Collaborate with Sunbloom's European team and contribute to customer projects across multiple markets and geographies.
-Get closer to customers: See your work progress from laboratory trials to real-world applications and support their successful market adoption.
-Make an impact: As part of a dynamic and agile team, your experiments, conclusions, and recommendations will directly contribute to Sunbloom's commercial growth.
If you enjoy experimenting, understanding how ingredients work, and turning scientific research into practical solutions, we would be delighted to meet you.
Sunbloom Proteins is committed to promoting equal opportunities and fostering an inclusive work environment where everyone can thrive and reach their full professional potential.
