Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lead Operations Engineer to take a key role in the operational management of satellite platforms and missions.
The position combines hands-on satellite operations with team leadership and operational planning responsibilities. You will ensure reliable routine satellite operations while supporting mission preparation activities, launch campaigns, LEOP, and in-orbit operations.
You will also coordinate shift planning, training activities, anomaly management, and operational processes while working closely with engineering, mission, and ground segment teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the reliable routine operation of satellite platforms
- Support simulations and mission preparation activities, including launch preparation, LEOP (Launch and Early Orbit Phase) and IOD (In-Orbit Demonstration)
- Process and implement Operational Service Requests
- Investigate, analyze, and coordinate the resolution of operational anomalies
- Support the preparation of operational reports and technical documentation
- Process and coordinate requests from the User Help Desk
- Take responsibility for operational shift planning
- Plan, coordinate, and ensure the quality of training activities for operations personnel
- Support workforce and resource planning
- Coordinate operational activities across relevant technical and mission teams
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of satellite operations processes and procedures
Profile / Requirements
- Master’s degree or higher in a STEM discipline, such as aerospace engineering, physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a comparable technical field
- Several years of professional experience in an operational aerospace or space environment
- Experience working with real-time systems and executing technical procedures in an operational environment
- Experience with satellite control systems and tools such as SCOS, EGS-CC, CCS5, or comparable platforms
- Knowledge of flight dynamics, space communications, RF technologies, and/or ground segment systems is considered a strong advantage
- Extensive experience in team leadership and coordinating complex technical projects or operational activities
- Strong organizational and planning capabilities, particularly in operational and shift-based environments
- Ability to work accurately and make sound decisions under time pressure
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- High level of responsibility and a structured, proactive working approach
- Willingness to work in a shift-based operational environment
- Willingness to travel when required
- Very good written and spoken German and English (minimum C1 level)
- Valid Category B driving licence
