# Senior Applied AI / ML Engineer (f/m/x)

## About the Role

BMW Group is seeking a Senior Applied AI / ML Engineer to help shape the future of intelligent mobility through advanced AI and machine learning solutions. The role focuses on developing and refining edge GenAI models for the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, combining innovative model engineering with robust and reproducible data and ML pipelines.

As an individual contributor, you will select and adapt base models for voice assistant and intelligence tasks, develop fine-tuning and evaluation workflows, optimize models for efficient edge inference, and collaborate across engineering disciplines to meet hardware performance requirements.

## Key Responsibilities

* Select and adapt base models for voice assistant and intelligence-related tasks.

* Build clean, reproducible training, fine-tuning, and evaluation pipelines.

* Develop and refine small GenAI and machine learning models.

* Implement model compression techniques such as quantization, pruning, and distillation.

* Collaborate with performance engineers on hardware-aware model variants and optimization.

* Co-own latency and memory KPIs for models deployed on target hardware.

* Ensure models meet defined performance and resource budgets.

* Build evaluation suites and analyze model behavior statistically.

* Document model design decisions, trade-offs, and model cards for audits and compliance.

* Apply machine learning and model engineering expertise to customer-focused intelligent mobility solutions.

## Required Qualifications

* University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

* Several years of experience in applied machine learning and model engineering.

* Proficiency with PyTorch and Transformers frameworks.

* Expertise in model compression, alignment, and fine-tuning of small GenAI and ML models.

* Experience building evaluation suites and performing statistical analysis of model behavior.

* Practical understanding of edge-device constraints, including RAM, bandwidth, cache, and cold-start considerations.

* Professional proficiency in English.

* Strong problem-solving skills.

* Hands-on mentality and proactive approach.

* Excellent cross-functional communication skills.

## Preferred Qualifications

* Professional knowledge of German.

* Experience working on AI solutions for voice assistants or related intelligence tasks, where applicable.
