We are offering a doctoral thesis dealing with the design, development, and testing of a high-performance PLL that meets the demands of modern communication systems. The specific goals of the project include: 1.,,Investigating and analyzing the state-of-the-art PLL architectures and identifying areas for improvement. 2.,,Developing a novel PLL design that achieves high frequency stability, low phase noise, low power and fast locking time. 3.,,Implementing the designed PLL in 28nm CMOS technology 4.,,Characterizing and testing the fabricated PLL to validate its performance. 5.,,Exploring techniques to improve the PLL's robustness against process, voltage, and temperature (PVT) variations.
The research is carried out in cooperation with the University of TU Munich and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Brederlow, Chair of Circuit Design.

Job Description
The tasks within the thesis will consist of:
- Conducting a thorough literature review to identify the current state-of-the-art in PLL design
- Development and simulation of novel PLL architectures using CAD tools
- Design and layout of the selected PLL architecture
- Fabrication and testing of the PLL using suitable measurement equipment
- Analysis and interpretation of the measurement results to validate the PLL´s performance
- A novel high-performance PLL design that achieves improved frequency stability, lower phase noise, and faster locking time
- A comprehensive understanding of the PLL's behavior and performance under various operating conditions
- Contributions to the development of PLL design methodologies and techniques

As the ideal candidate you:
- Are eligible for full-time PhD studies and have a master’s degree in electrical engineering and Electronics or a related field
- Already have some experience with PLL design, either through academic projects or industry experience
- Have a strong background in RF/Analog design, including circuit analysis, simulation, and layout
- Are proficient in CAD tools such as Cadence, Mentor Graphics, or similar
- Have excellent analytical skills, problem-solving skills and teamwork skills
- Have the ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Have good oral and written communication skills in German and English
